The Elmtree Blues Society is an occasional invitational blues jam in Southern California, which recently expanded to the Languedoc region of Southern France.

Elmtree Blues Society began around 1986, nobody remembers exactly when.  It was a bunch of old friends and young neighbors who loved playing gutbucket, downhome blues.    We gathered occasionally under a big spreading Elmtree in a huge backyard behind Louisa's little house in Temple City, California, with a full set of good gear, fresh lemonade and no expectations.

Today Elmtree Blues Society is a blues jamming network of more than fifty blueshounds and musicians - from top professionals to rank amateurs, from old fogeys to young kids - who meet occasionally, mostly in Southern California, soon also in Carcassonne, France,   to jam the blues 'til the sun goes down.

We have almost no rules.  We don't need them because each member of the Elmtree Blues Society - at least anyone who is invited back -  is generous, laidback, kindhearted, and simply loves the idea of settin' under a tree and knockin' out the blues as we love it:  a musical conversation from the heart, without a boss, without a care   just some soul and swing and funk and heart and maybe some nice refreshments, good weather and of course  fine professional equipment.

At Elmtree, "The only dues you pay are the blues you play!"  Thus you gotta play if you want to stay, you gotta listen good and you gotta make space for others in the mix.    Simply: you gotta have fun helpin' others have fun!
