Venice Jam - December, 2005

No pics recieved to date....but here is some of the commentary.... obviously a good time was had by all (Monsieur Fertig is jealous!) and we also understand the music was very good too....

Congrats to the European contingent of the Elmtree Blues Society....I know it will reap a solid groove. As far as Pete's description of the events, as they actually occurred, it couldn't have been more perfectly and eloquently stated. Being a "drummer" and having been present at said "BS" meeting during the occurrence I can attest to it's authenticity....no BS....I HAD A FREAKIN' BLAST

LOVE TO ALL.... Big Al

UUUHHHH....I dunoo man.....don't remember too much about it. Was I there? Oh yeah, I was.....yeah, great sounds, great players, man the PA and Bass amps were "smokin' ", I think......or was we jus' playin' "somethin's burnin'? I seen sombody snappin' pics, hope they don't come out all foggy 'n such....... hey, we gonna do that again soon?

I've been reading all this, I actually got fed (my bro stopped at Bud's deli) and my memory of the time line is still fairly intact. Maybe mistaken identity, I was at the band safety meeting in the garage- it couldn't have been my amp burning, it was on top of another one that was just driving the speaker- LM

Wait a minute! Wait a minute!! Although I was not at the “BS” meeting I could see it from afar as I was blowin some mean tunes on the harp. If my memory serves me well and my eyes weren’t deceiving me I saw several of the members at the south end of the yard doin some kinda training in fire safety. It appeared that they were using some kinda wind pipe to extinguish a fire. I could not see the flame from my vantage point but I could see the smoke. It was a bit strange though because smelt a bit like my wife roasting chilies. However, I think that the “BS” that they were discussing at the meeting must have been touching. As each member walked away from the meeting I could see tears in their blood shot eyes. It’s great to see such heart felt “BS” going on at the Elmtree Jams.

Well that’s the way I seein’ it.

Shorty

You're right and I apologize for the attempt at dry humor and the bogus alibi- my bro remembers a weird woman running around behind the fences while the BS session was in progress; maybe we should try roasting some chiles next time, but then we might have to invite her (and the cops) in to try 'em. It was a real blast, LM

I would like to take this opportunity to clear up a few misconceptions as to what actually occured with L.A.'s finest at the most recent Venice jam. As I recall we have never had a single problem with any police at any jam or gig ever! This time was no exception. A guest informed Pat that several officers wanted to speak with him. After I extensively questioned Pat the other day and helped him solve his "over-abundance of leftover beer" problem, here are Pat's replies to those fine officer's questions. You can guess the questions...

Oh, good afternoon officers!
Yes I am.
Pat Nolan.
Oh, just some friends.
Yeah, they are pretty good!
Huh?
What?
You're right, Eli's PA does sound really good!
What's that?
Oh, they're playing too loud!
!
I'll tell the guys right away.
Was there a complaint?
Oh I see, you guys were just driving by!
Sure, we'll take care of it.
Tree?
Yeah, it's the Elmtree Blu...
I'm sorry, could you speak up please?
What kind of tree was that?
You mean a burning tree?
Oh, I gotcha...
I'll take care of that too.
Thanks.
Ok, you guy's have a good afternoon too.

Now, unbeknownst to Pat nor our brave officers, I was at that very moment conducting a "Band Safety Meeting" or as I like to call, it a "BS" meeting. A drummer, a bass player, the bass player's brother, a charter member guitar player (all of whom shall remain nameless) and myself were taking part. We had already determined that the mysterious so-called "burning tree" odor was in fact caused by all the tube amplifiers that were in close proximity to foliage of any type. I can also say without fear of contradiction that Eli's and Joe's hybrid (tube/solid state) amps in no way contributed to this aromatic state of affairs. Figure that one out for yourself. Tom's solid state amp mysteriously didn't contribute to it either. I think that's because he was using it at the time!

Anyway, I thought all of you might like to know the "real" facts behind the story.
Next time we'll take the BS in the garage where it can be conducted more discreetly.
After all you don't want to smell the BS now, do you? Rimshot, please!

Pete

PS I thought we had a fun jam with a lot of new players and let's hope Dave and Louisa do the same without BS'ing the gendarmes!! Double rimshot, please!! PTV
